Diary

The Association holds regular education meetings at Llysfasi College, Ruthin Road, Ruthin, Denbighshire LL15 2LB.

One evening a month (Mondays) speakers are invited to address the members. These meetings are very popular and are a great opportunity to keep up with the latest in beekeeping and to meet other local beekeepers.

During the Summer months, apiary practical meetings take place at the Association apiary opposite Llysfasi College. These provide a chance to learn from experienced beekeepers.

12 March – Lynfa Davies - “The role of drones”

Lynfa Davies is a member of Aberystwyth and District BKA and has kept bees for 13 years with her husband, Rob. She became a Master Beekeeper in 2015 and currently has 15 hives. She gets involved with teaching new beekeepers in her association and also regularly gives talks. Those of you who are also members of the BBKA will have seen Lynfa's articles in the BBKA news.

When Lynfa is not beekeeping she works for Menter a Busnes on the Farming Connect programme which is a support and advisory service for farmers in Wales. Her role is to encourage the uptake of new technologies and ideas on farm by working with groups of farmers to undertake projects.

Lynfa's talk will be about Drones: their role within the colony. Drones are often misunderstood and with recent encouragement to destroy drone brood as part of our Integrated Pest Management we tend to think of them as an unnecessary burden on the colony. Lynfa will champion these poor relations and explain just how important they are.
